- The Game
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- ADRENALIN is a fast paced and *very* simple shoot 'em up. You are in control
- of a space-ship and there is an entire alien fleet against you. Plots? Who
- needs them...
-
- This program is FREEWARE. That means that I retain copyright on all of it
- and it's associated files, but you are free to distribute ADRENALIN however
- you see fit, subject to the following restrictions:
-
- Unmodified copies of ADRENALIN may be freely distributed via BBSs, the
- internet and services such as CompuServe or CIX. You may not include
- ADRENALIN as part of any commercial product, including shareware, without the
- explicit permission of me, the author.
-
- All of the original files must be present although you may re-archive them
- under a different compression program (If so, please try and keep the
- version number somewhere in the file name of the archive).
-
- Incidentally, any donations of a cheque for 5 pounds (STERLING) would be
- gladly recieved, as would offers of a job programming PC games... I wish'd.
-
- Justification for releasing such a simple game: I still get shareware
- versions of FROGGER, so if people can still do that without getting locked
- up, I can't see any harm in releasing this... :-)
-
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Hardware Needed
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Adrenalin needs:
-
- - an IBM compatible with a 386 (or higher) processer.
- - VGA graphics.
- - About 275k of free memory (yes, you read it right).
-
- Adrenalin will run from a floppy disk, but why would you want to?
-
- Sorry 'lin needs a 386 (SXs are fine), but it ran too slowly on my
- 386SX-20mhz too use just 286 instructions. If you're desperate to play it
- on your 286 I could knock up a 286 version...if I get enough requests, that
- is.
-
- Adrenalin does not support any sound cards in version 1. (Sound blaster FX
- should be in place for version 2 tho...probably).
-
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Running Adrenalin
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- The .EXE is called "lin" so you start it from whichever directory you
- installed it into by typing "lin". Follow that?
-
- If you like you can put any of the following switches on the command line
- (seperated by spaces, surprisingly).
-
- -SLOW Use this if ADRENALIN runs far too fast on your PC (you've
- probably got a 486 or something better (I haven't :,( *snif* ).
-
- -CHEAT Stops you from dying after taking too many hits. This will be
- gone in version 2.
-
- If you want to get rid of the old Hi-Score table, just delete the file
- LIN.HI from Adrenalin's subdirectory.
-
- Adrenalin seems to run fine (and just as fast!) under MS-Windows, but it's
- certainly not WindowsFriendly (You will have to run it full-screen and
- ALT+TAB won't work to let you change applications).
-
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Playing Adrenalin
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- The controls are keyboard only:
-
- LEFT ARROW - Move left.
- RIGHT ARROW - Move right.
- UP ARROW - Move Up.
- DOWN ARROW - Move Down.
- CONTROL - Fire.
- TAB - Pause the game.
- ESC - Quit this game. (ESC again from the title
- screen exits to DOS).
-
- Object of the game: Kill all the aliens.
-
- At the top of the screen is a bar representing your current shield level,
- when this reaches 0 you die. To the right of this is your score. Can you
- handle this information overload? Aliens appear from the right hand side of
- the screen and proceed to wobble towards the left. Shoot or dodge them
- before they run into you. When you have killed enough aliens a "mothership"
- (slightly bigger alien) will appear. This will try and shoot you. Shoot it
- until it dies. If you get tired, hit TAB to pause the game. Hit TAB again
- to resume.

- THANKS & MISC
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Thanks to Borland for producing an EXCELLENT compiler (Borland C/C++ 3.1).
- (If Borland want to give me a free copy of Borland C++ 4.5,
- I wouldn't say no. :-)
-
- That's about all for the thanks...
-
- Known bugs in this version:
-
- - Surprisingly (considering that I programmed it),
- there are no bugs that I've found...
-
- - The "-SLOW" switch isn't perfect. It works by doing
- some jiggery-pokery to the internal timer, but my
- knowledge of reprogramming the timer is far from
- complete 'n' replete, so it's not vastly satisfactory.
- (Version 2.0 will have automatically speed adjusting
- code, or something... :-)
